The NPAP Public Health Sector focuses on physical activity promotion through federal, state, county, and local health departments and non-governmental public health organizations like higher education institutions, professional societies, non-profits, think tanks, and advocacy groups. Public health organizations play an important role in population-level physical activity through education, policy, and research activities. The sector aims to develop a public health workforce, policy and advocacy efforts, surveillance, and evaluation of programs equipt to support and promote physical activity in the US.
