ChairDr. Harold W. (Bill) Kohl, III is Professor of Epidemiology and Kinesiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center – Houston School of Public Health and the University of Texas, Austin. At the University of Texas School of Public Health, Dr. Kohl also serves as the Associate Regional Dean for Academic Affairs and International Health Affairs at the Austin Regional Campus. In his recent efforts, he has concentrated on national and international physical activity surveillance and epidemiology issues, as well as program development and evaluation studies for the promotion of school-based physical activity for children and adolescents. He initiated Active Texas 2020, a state physical activity plan for Texas. He has served as an elected Trustee and is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and is a Fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology. He is the founder and past-president of the International Society for Physical Activity and Health. He has served in an editorial capacity for several scientific journals and is currently Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. He has published more than 200 papers, chapters and monographs in the scientific literature and in 2012 co-authored the textbook Foundations of Physical Activity and Public Health. Vice-ChairNiCole Keith, Ph.D., FACSM is a Research Scientist at Indiana University Center for Aging Research, a Regenstrief Institute Investigator, a Professor of Kinesiology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs for the IUPUI School of Health and Human Sciences, and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). She was the 2014-2016 Vice-President of ACSM, serves on ACSM’s Exercise is Medicine and American Fitness Index Advisory Boards, and serves on several national committees. She co-founded Physically Active Residential Communities and Schools – a partnership between Indianapolis Public Schools, Eskenazi Health, and IUPUI that provides exercise opportunities to over 4,000 Indianapolis residents. Dr. Keith serves on the National Physical Activity Plan Executive Committee and has a focus on health equity. Her research examines healthy aging, physical activity participation, fitness, and health outcomes. | |
SecretaryHeather Erwin earned her Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Pedagogical Kinesiology. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky, where she served as Department Chair. She has worked with teachers and administrators in school districts, recreation programs, and youth sport organizations across the country to promote youth to be physically active for a lifetime. She has authored over 50 articles, both data-based and applied. She is a co-author of Dynamic Physical Education for Secondary School Children 8th and 9th editions. | |
TreasurerElizabeth A. Joy, MD, MPH, FACSM is the Medical Director for Community Health, Nutrition Services, and the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Joy practices Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the Salt Lake LiVe Well Center. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, and in the College of Health Department of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology. Dr. Joy is the Past President of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the Female Athlete Triad Coalition. She serves on the Exercise Is Medicine Governance Committee for the ACSM, chairs the EIM Clinical Practice Committee, and chairs the Healthcare Workgroup for the National Physical Activity Plan. |
