2009 National Conference
In July 2009, over 300 registrants gathered at the Westin Hotel in Washington, D.C. to contribute to development of the first U.S. National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP).
This ‘working conference’ was well-attended by professionals from more than 200 public health, education, government, and non-profit organizations. The Call to Action Keynote speaker was former United States Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher. Plenary sessions at the conference featured national and international experts in the field of physical activity and public health. Presentations highlighted evidence supporting policy change that could ultimately lead to increases in population levels of physical activity.
In addition, breakout groups met throughout the conference to generate content for each of the societal sectors around which the new Plan was being developed.
